Dr. Muhammad Al-Jasser is Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank Group, a position he assumed on August 9, 2021. In this role, he leads the Bank’s efforts to promote sustainable economic development and social progress across member countries and beyond.
Dr. Al-Jasser’s career spans decades of leadership in economic policy and financial regulation. He served as the Minister of Economy and Planning and Governor and Board Chairman of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (now the Saudi Central Bank-SAMA).
His tenure included pivotal roles as Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Finance and National Economy, Vice Governor and Vice Chairman of the SAMA Board, Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He also chaired the GCC Monetary Council, the Board of the Arab Investment Company, and the Council of the Islamic Financial Services Board.
Dr. Al Jasser holds a PhD and a master’s degree in economics from the University of California, as well as a bachelor’s degree in economics with honors from San Diego State University.
He has been recognized with numerous honors and awards, including the King Abdul Aziz Medal of the First Order (2001), Senegal’s National Order of the Lion (January 2023), the Grand Commander of the Order of the Republic of The Gambia (May 2024), the “Hilal-i-Quaid-i-Azam” Medal of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (May 2024), the Order of Friendship of the Kyrgyz Republic (June 2024), and the “Dusti” (Friendship) Award of the Republic of Tajikistan (September 2024).
